The Boston Celtics have been stuffed with assets over the past years ever since dismantling their 2008 championship team which included "The Truth" Paul Pierce and Kevin "The Big Ticket" Garnett. Their current set of tradable assets consists of the Brooklyn Nets' 1st round draft pick, the expiring contract of David Lee and any of their multiple guards.
According to hardwoodhoudini.com, the well-balanced roster of the Celtics are still missing a true superstar to bring them back to championship contention. Many believe that while the pieces are there, the team still needs one player to change their fortunes. The team's backcourt is currently filled with Evan Turner, Isiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart and James Young. The team's biggest weakness is their inside defense and a true center.
That possible superstar to fill that hole could be All-Star center Dwight Howard. The potential deal would be the Celtics sending David Lee's expiring contract, Kelly Olynyk, Avery Bradley and one of their draft picks to the Houston Rockets for Dwight Howard.
Sports Illustrated has reported that the Rockets are already inquiring for potential trade packages for the former Orlando Magic franchise center. It states that Howard has been rumored to be working with his agent Dan Fegan to find a deal. Given that Howard is expected to use opt-out clause in next year's offseason, the Rockets could look to moving him now rather than losing him for nothing.
Furthermore, bleacherreport.com states that sources close to Howard hasve confirmed his inclination of weighing his options in free agency.
Amidst rumors that Howard is unhappy in Houston due to his sidekick role to James Harden, the center declined those allegations. "I chose to go to Houston (via free agency in the summer of 2013), so why would I just say, 'I'm not happy' and leave," Howard said.
"I chose this place, you know what I'm saying? And I want to make this thing work here. Obviously we haven't been playing great basketball, and personally, for myself my numbers don't seem like I've been playing great, but the only thing on my mind is trying to grow as a man and grow as a teammate and a leader."
