Reports have it that "Star Wars: Episode 8" has officially commenced filming and production work on "Star Wars: Episode 9," which is slated to have a release date in 2019, has also started.

According to IGN, Disney CEO Bob Iger recently revealed during an investor call that filming of the next Star Wars movie has begun.

"There is no better way to propel this franchise into the future than producing quality products," Iger told Entertainment Weekly.

"Filming of Star Wars: Episode 8, the next chapter of the legendary saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017. And production of Episode 9, a 2019 release, has also begun."

It was announced last month that the release date of "Star Wars: Episode 8", which was previously scheduled to happen on May 26, 2017, has been delayed six months to Dec. 15, 2017, owing to script rewrites.

No other details about the "Star Wars: Episode 9" has been revealed except that the "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow will be directing the movie.

Trevorrow recently stunned everybody when he announced that he will shoot the movie using real film and not digital cameras.

The Jurassic World director said, while addressing the "Power of Story: The Art of Film" panel at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, that he wishes to shoot "Episode 9" on film, just as he did with Jurassic World.

"I could never shoot Star Wars on anything but [film] because it's a period film: It happened a long time ago," Trevorrow said, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"The only place where I tend to not be able to attach myself entirely to something shot digitally is when that's a period film. There's something in my brain that immediately says, 'Well, they didn't have video cameras then.'"

He revealed that he has even approached Disney and Lucasfilm for making it possible to shoot some Star Wars scenes in the outer space among the actual stars.

"Star Wars: Episode 9" is scheduled to a have a US release date of May 29, 2019.
