The "Captain America: Civil War" trailer may have given fans a clue on Scarlet Witch's role in the film.
The official synopsis for the film, released by Marvel, revealed that one final incident causes the government to intervene and issue the Superhuman Registration Act (SRA).
"Marvel's 'Captain America: Civil War' finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity," the movie's plot summary read.
"But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team."
International Business Times noted that the new Avengers that Captain America leads at the end of "Age of Ultron" is responsible for a deadly event that results in the deaths of civilians.
In the "Captain America: Civil War" trailer released during Super Bowl 50, an upset Scarlet Witch was shown with her hands covering her mouth. This led to speculations that the new Avenger may have a hand in the development of the SRA.
According to Heroic Hollywood, the international crisis that involves the Avengers in the film will see Captain America and Scarlet Witch trying to apprehend Crossbones. Apparently, the villain is wearing a suicide vest full of explosives.
To protect the civilians around them, Cap orders Scarlet Witch to keep Crossbones off the ground. She is able to do it. However, she is not able to contain the explosion that happens near a populated building and causes death and destruction.
Cinema Blend speculated that this may have caused the last straw for superheroes. "Over the last few Marvel movies we've seen growing public backlash against the Avengers and their ilk," the website wrote.
It was previously reported that Steve Rogers will be killed by the end of the movie. The Russo brothers seem to be sticking to the comics' plot from "Fallen Son."
