Kendrick Lamar is set to have a spectacular night as his album, "To Pimp A Butterfly," was able to grab 11 Grammy nominations, including the elusive Album of the Year and Song of the Year award; fans are much excited because the rapper's win in the Grammy's may give another push for the release of his most-anticipated new album.
Stars and Stripes, in its report, said that Kendrick Lamar may just make history at the Grammy's. The rapper has a chance to become the first rapper to win the Album of the Year award since 2004 with Outkast nabbing the prize for "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below."
Lamar may also be the first rapper of all time to win song of the year for his single, "Alright," featuring Pharrell Williams, Kawan Prather and Mark Anthony Spears.
Stars and Stripes, however, pointed out that The Recording Company has a tendency to shade rappers especially in the top four categories-Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best New Artist. The Album of the Year award, accordingly, has eluded several rappers already, including Jay Z and Kanye West.
"It's bigger than me," Kendrick Lamar said (via Newsday) about his nominations and the possibility of winning. "When we think about the Grammy's, only Lauryn Hill and Outkast have won album of the year. This would be big for hip-hop culture at large."
Newsday also highlighted that even President Barack Obama himself, in a YouTube interview, picked "To Pimp A Butterfly" as the best album of the year. He also told People magazine that Lamar's "How Much A Dollar Cost," which was a parable about God appearing to Lamar and asking for a dollar, was his favorite song in 2015.
Meanwhile, the chances for the Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole new album collab to get done is getting dimmer as J. Cole is set to go on tour with Drake. According to Christian Today, a Drake and J. Cole summer tour will be announced soon and if this happens, J.Cole will have no time anymore to work on the studio with Lamar for the most-requested collab album.
Winning the Grammy's, however, may greatly influence the production of a new album for Lamar but for now, fans could only wait.
