Terry (Eddie Marsan) and Abby (Paula Malcomson) almost took their friendship to another level last season, but spoilers for "Ray Donovan" season 4 reveal that their relationship won't progress further.
Showrunner David Hollander confirmed as much in an interview with TVLine as he said that Terry might have offered comfort and love to Abby, but it's more paternal than anything else.
"The friendship will continue but the flirtation will not," he said.
"It's not a triangulated love story," the showrunner explained. "Terry is not going to steal Abby from Ray. He will always regret [kissing her]. And, in a way, Terry will perceive what he did as one of the reasons he got shot."
Even if there's no romance, however, fans of Terry would be glad to know that the showrunners decided against killing him, despite the temptation to amp the ratings.
"Spiritually, Ray needed to have his legs knocked out from under him. I don't believe in the edict that you have to kill your characters," he said.
Meanwhile, Dash Mihok might have teased spoilers for "Ray Donovan" season 4 to The Wrap when he claimed that there could a change in the dynamics between his character, Bunchy, and Ray (Liev Schreiber).
But only if the showunners and writers will agree with their idea.
"Liev had this plot line, that I loved, but I don't know if it's gonna happen," Mihok suggested. "He had this idea that it would be amazing if I came and worked for him."
Mihok went on to add, "I think there would be a lot of humor and hijinks if Bunchy got to work for Ray. But I'm sure that if the fatherhood thing continues, there's going to be a whole struggle thing with being a parent and the way you view your children when you've been abused - you're totally confused and conflicted."
There's no air date yet for "Ray Donovan" season 4 although the series was renewed for 2016. There should be plenty of spoilers before the premiere, however.
