Blake Griffin's name has been dragged into the NBA trade rumors and now, if the reports are to believed, the Los Angeles Clippers just declared open season for the high-flying superstar.
A tweet from Basketball Insiders senior writer Tommy Beer quoted Chris Broussard as saying on ESPN, "The Clippers called the Nuggets and offered Blake Griffin & Lance Stephenson for Jokic, Will Barton, Gallanari & Faried."
Fans quickly reacted how the trade could break up the chemistry of the Clippers, which are trying hard to get top seed and homecourt advantage in the playoffs.
"They got a solid team. They just need to work with what they got. You can't build a program if u keep changing players," one fan wrote.
"Blake only about to be 27 if they trade him we basically have to rebuild cause the players we getting not stars," another said.
Griffin is averaging 23.2 points on 50% shooting, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists this season for the Clippers. He's currently sidelined on the injury to his hand.
There's no word from the front office on the report, but in all these NBA trade rumors, a red herring is almost always unavoidable.
For instance, Dan Woike, reporter of the Orange County Register, tweeted that it was the other way around.
In fact, it was the Nuggets who contacted the Clippers and floated the idea about acquiring Blake Griffin for some key players.
"Sources: Denver reached out and asked about Blake Griffin but Clippers weren't interested. Not much discussion," he wrote.
That got a sarcastic reply from one fan who quipped, "Stop ruining our speculations with good journalism, we need trade rumours to survive the dogs days of the season."
Another commented, "That's great news! I think that around this time of year there's a lot of rumors made up."
What's clear, however, is that with the Feb. 18 NBA trade deadline fast approaching, the rumors are even going to intensify from hereon.
