On the 9th of November 2015, Stone Temple Pilots lead vocalist Chester Bennington announced he would be quitting the band two and a half years since replacing original vocalist Scott Weiland. The band is still looking for a frontman so they may move forward and create new music.

Remaining band members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz posted on the Stone Temple Pilots website, news calling for an open audition to be part of the group as a lead vocalist.

"As you know, prior to the untimely passing of our brother in arms, Scott, we had been working with the incomparable Chester Bennington. What you also likely know is that having Chester front two bands of this size and scope was too much for one man to be able to do and so regretfully we had to move onto a new chapter together. This is where you come in."

"We are officially announcing that we are seeking a new vocalist to front Stone Temple Pilots. We've already heard from many talented people, but want to make this an opportunity for many more so we've set up a way for you to do just that," the group added.

In an interview with rollingstone.com, guitarist Dean DeLeo explained that the group has a lot of material and they are looking to move forward once they find the perfect frontman.

"We'll know when it's the right person before they'll even open their mouth, just when they walk into the room. We're looking to be moved by somebody," said DeLeo.

He added: "Glen Campbell said to me a long time ago, 'Dean, you got to live it to write it' - and you kind of know when that person walks into a room. I want to be hit in that place in my soul where music buries itself. That feeling, man. That's what we want."
