The long-awaited "Independence Day: Resurgence" sequel movie is set to return to the theaters soon without Will Smith's well-embraced character named Captain Steven "Steve" Hiller, USMC.

Will Smith's absence in the upcoming film has conveyed immense disappointment to a vast majority of the first 1996's "Independence Day" fans, which led them to speculate that one of the principle reasons for his absence was a result of budget issues, as beforehand reported.

That said, to ease everyone's curiosity, the actor himself finally spoke up and cleared up why he isn't in "Independence Day: Resurgence," aside from the fact that his character has already been killed off from the last movie.

In its report, Cinema Blend said that the actor revealed that his decision to not return to "Independence Day: Resurgence" had nothing to do with any lack of interest, but rather that the conflict of schedules.

Needless to say, the scheduling conflicts incited Will Smith to settle on a choice between one high profile film and another.

"It was one of those things. I had a couple of films lined up," said Smith. "I had 'Concussion' and 'Suicide Squad.' So it was a decision, timing wise, between 'Independence Day' and 'Suicide Squad'."

That said, it turns out it wasn't that Will Smith would not like to be in the movie, but rather that he simply didn't have a sufficient time.

Will Smith's character, Captain Steve, died while doing the test piloting of ESD's first alien hybrid fighter way back in 2007 as revealed in "War of 1996's" interactive timeline - that serves as a dedication to those individuals who intensely fought the aliens in 1996's "Independence Day."

Indeed, even the film director previously clarified why the actor opted out for the film's sequel.

"In the very beginning, I wanted to work with him and he was excited to be in it but then after a while he was tired of sequels, and he did another science fiction film, which was his father-son story, so he opted out," said Emmerich, in an interview with Cinema Blend.

Needless to say, even without Will Smith, the forthcoming "Independence Day: Resurgence" film is set to showcase a fresh wave of aliens, who returns with a vengeance, undermining the planet once again.
