The Los Angeles Lakers front office is reportedly vacillating between firing Byron Scott as coach next season or not, according to the latest news reports.
Talking about the coach, the LA Times reported that Byron Scott is not expected to be fired this season.
"Some within the organization wonder what Scott might do with a better roster. The one he has now has produced an 11-44 record, second-worst in the NBA," he wrote. "Others, however, wonder about the effectiveness of the tough love he administers to the team's many young players."
Scott has signed a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers for $17 million. He has been coaching the team for two years now.
But Mark Medina of LA Daily News claimed that Byron Scott's job as a coach is in jeopardy, even if the news reports filtering out suggest that that the Los Angeles Lakers plan on keeping him.
"When I talk with a lot of people around the league the expectation is Byron Scott will not be the coach next season," he told NBA TV, as shared by SilverScreenAndRoll.
"But when you talk to the Lakers, they're saying he's definitely going to be here this season, and they are going to evaluate him this off-season," he added.
There's no love lost between coach Byron Scott and Los Angeles Lakers fans as they think that he's holding down the development of the no. 2 pick D'Angelo Russell and the no. 7 pick Julius Randle.
In fact, the point guard has already complained of his lack of playing time, particularly at the end of games. Randle, meanwhile, was thrown to the bench in favor of Larry Nance Jr.
According to the news analysis from SilverScreenAndRoll, the public pressure from all the losses might be too great for the Los Angeles Lakers management to ignore and Byron Scott could end up being fired.
"Barring something totally unforeseen Scott will coach the Lakers' final 27 games of the season, but until the event he is actually brought back next season it is probably safe to assume he won't be," it said.
