The NBA trade rumors are on its final run for the season, at least for the deadline, but more transactions are bound to happen at the end of the season.
One of the more surprising rumors that came out early this year was that the Atlanta Hawks were open to trading former All-Stars Al Horford and Jeff Teague, two players who have spent their entire careers with the team. That's probably why the trade did not happen.
According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hawks will not push through with blowing up their core.
"Sources: Atlanta's expressing its intentions to rivals that Hawks plan to keep team intact at deadline, holding onto Horford and key guards," Wojnarowski tweeted.
The Hawks were rumored to have spoken with several teams regarding Horford, who will become one of the most coveted free agents in the offseason. It is his status as a possible free agent that made teams like the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers hesitate. The Hawks were reportedly asking for the Brooklyn Nets unprotected pick from the Celtics and one of either Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel from the Sixers.
For the Hawks, they did not want feel compelled to trade their players, but they wanted to see what they could get.
However, they did not exactly sit out the deadline. Fansided reports that the Hawks are trading guard Shelvin Mack to the Utah Jazz, who are searching for a point guard.
The Jazz have been involved in NBA trade rumors due to their need of a point guard for a while," Fansided's Tom West. "Even with respectable players like Trey Burke, Raul Neto and Dante Exum (when he's healthy and made his return), point guard is still a weakness for them. Mack won't totally alter this by any means, but he's at least another combo guard to add some depth and playoff experience to such a young backcourt."
