George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date delay may have pushed the "Song of Ice and Fire" creator to enlist a co-author.

Last January, the highly-acclaimed fantasy novelist has admitted that his sixth book for "A Song of Ice and Fire" series is not yet finished. Martin made the announcement on his Live Journal.

"'THE WINDS OF WINTER' is not finished," he wrote.

There have been a lot of speculations on the release of George R.R. Martin's book 6 for his fantasy series, "A Song of Ice and Fire." Rumors were fueled even further with the news of "Game of Thrones" season 6 airing this April.

Christian Post reported that George R.R. Martin may be looking for a co-author to finish the "Winds of Winter." The publication noted that the "Game of Thrones" creator may need a second writer because of the complicated nature of the story.

According to Parent Herald, Martin may be enlisting the help of Neil Gaiman, whose popular works include "The Sandman," "Coraline," "Stardust" and "Neverwhere," among others. He also wrote "Good Omens" with Terry Pratchett.

The website added that Neil Gaiman was spotted in New Mexico where George R.R. Martin currently resides. With the two highly-acclaimed authors writing book 6 of the series, there is definitely more reasons for fans to be excited over the anticipated "Winds of Winter" release date.

Meanwhile, late night show host Conan O'Brien shared his thoughts on "The Winds of Winter" release date delay. CNET reported that George R.R. Martin was parodied in a comedy skit on "Conan."

It showed an actor dressed up as Martin. Apparently, the author is procrastinating instead of writing his highly-anticipated novel. He does all sorts of random things such as shopping for a mattress, smacking a piñata, destroying mailboxes, walking inside a giant bubble and stealing liquor.

It was previously reported that George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date may happen before "Game of Thrones" season 7 airs. There are also speculations that the book will arrive by 2017.
