Good news "Happy Endings" fans! There just might be a season 4 for the gone-too-soon ABC sitcom. Will we see Alex Kerkovich, Jane Williams, Penny Hartz, Max Blum, Brad Williams and Dave Rose back in the small screen?

Rumors of "Happy Endings" Season 4 circulated online when @HappyWrites, the official Twitter account of the show's writers, sent out a mysterious tweet after a four-month hiatus.

The link of the tweet leads to a page that reads: "It's almost a new day," followed by a countdown.

According to E! Online, after sending the cryptic tweet, @HappyWrites followed Amazon, Netflix, and Yahoo Screen. A rep, however, confirmed that the series has not been picked up by Netflix. So, it must be either Amazon or Yahoo.

But before fans get too excited about the possibility of a "Happy Endings" season 4, the countdown included in the link ends at exactly midnight, Chicago time, on April Fool's Day, even accounting for Daylight Savings on March 8th.There could be a big possibility that this is nothing but a cruel joke.

The return of "Happy Endings" is not after all a far-fetched idea. Both Adam Pally (Max Blum) and Damon Wayans Jr (Brad Williams) have left or are leaving their current shows-"The Mindy Project" and "New Girl," respectively with little explanation on the decision. USA also recently axed "Benched" a new sitcom starring Eliza Coupe (Jane Williams). That's three out of the six original cast members!

The rest of the cast Casey Wilson (Penny Hartz) is still on NBC's "Marry Me". Meanwhile, Elisha Cuthbert (Alex Kerkovich) and Zachary Knighton (Dave Rose) have new sitcoms about to debut - "One Big Happy" and "Weird Loners."

In a previous interview with TV Line, executive producer Jonathan Groff revealed what would have happened in case there was a Season 4 for "Happy Endings." Would Penny and Dave happen now that Alex and Dave broke up?

"Maybe. I think we would have needed to regroup because Penny and Alex are so close and that relationship is so important and they've known each other their whole lives. We knew we couldn't do Dave and Penny until we got Dave and Alex sorted out. At the end of Season 3, they got the break-up that they really needed to have, which is one with an even playing field and nobody having left anyone at the altar," he said.
