Apples are a fruit and they are good to consume. Besides being a part of your daily meal-consumption. There are some things people might not know about the food that where one a day, takes the doctor away.

Apples are the second most popular fruit in the US, with each American eating about 19 pound a year. Apples have many health benefits. In fact, it is considered one of the world's healthiest foods. In 2004. USDA scientists investigated over 100 foods to measure their anti oxidant concentration per serving size. Two apples, red delicious and granny smith ranked 12th and 13th respectively.

Antioxidants are disease fighting compounds. Scientists believe these compounds help prevent and repair oxidation damage that happens during normal cell activity. Apples are also full of fiber called pectin- a medium sized apple contains about 4 grams of fiber. pectin is classed as soluble, fermentable and viscous fiber, a combination that gives it a huge list of health benefits.

Scientists from the American association for cancer research agree the consumption of flavonol-rich apples could help reduce the risk of developing pancreatic cancer. Researchers at Cornell University have identified several compounds - trierpenoids-in apple peel that have potent anti growth activities against cancer cell in liver, colon and breast. Their earlier research found that extracts from whole apple can reduce the number and size of mammary tumors in rats. Meanwhile, the National Cancer Institute in the US has recommend a high fiber intake to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer, like apple.
