Sexting has been proven to be good not only for the health but also to relationships. A new survey conducted by researchers from Drexel University found out sexting is a very common activity among adults. In fact, 82 percent of the participants admitted they have done the activity over the past year. Aside from that, they found out that it could actually foster satisfaction in relationships.

The study will be presented at the American Psychological Association's Annual Convention to be held at Toronto, Canada.  "Most people have focused on the dangers of sexting and how it can harm a relationship but context matters," Emily Stasko, a doctoral candidate in the department of psychology at Drexel University in Philadelphia and study author told Health.com

"Sexting is definitely something that many adults are doing, it's not going away, and the findings indicate that it can actually be good for relationships and sexual satisfaction," she added.

To land to their findings, Stasko and her colleagues enrolled 870 people between ages 18 and 82 to answer a survey about sexting. Furthermore, they added that gender did not affect their answers. In fact, both men and women reported similar levels of sexting, reports NPR News.

Medical News Today added that greater sexting frequency was associated to greater sexual satisfaction for both men and women. Couples who admitted they sexted more often were more likely to answer that they are very satisfied with their relationship.

The researchers added, "This research indicates that sexting is a prevalent behavior that adults engage in for a variety of reasons. These findings show a robust relationship between sexting and sexual relationship satisfaction."
