An extremely rare and horrific incident happened in one Subway chain restaurant after a customer ordered a sandwich and was horrified to find a dead mouse in his order. The Subway chain happened to be in Lincoln City and Matt Jones was the unfortunate customer to experience the sandwich mishap. Jones narrated the story to KGW and posted a picture of the sandwich with the dead mouse in his Facebook account. The story created a ruckus on social media with people raising health risks of the unhygienic event.
Jones said that he was ordering his usual subway sandwich, a sweet onion teriyaki sub with extra meat when he heard a commotion behind the counter as he was refilling his drink. The subway shop employee dropped the sandwich, which Jones thought to be an accident when he overheard the women behind starting to talk about seeing something that should be there. He then asked the employee what it was, was it a fingernail or hair.
Friends of Jones' who were with him at that time answered his question and said that it was something bigger than that, and that the girl behind the counter said it was a dead mouse. The little mouse was in the bottom of the spinach bin and as the employee was preparing the sandwich had a fright when she spread it on the bread and seeing the dead mouse. The mouse could have been possibly trapped in the container before it was packaged and delivered, Cheryl Connell, director of the Lincoln County Health and Human Services, told the Oregonian/OregonLive.
Jones admitted that he would never eat on the subway shop again, saying that although he did find the event disgusting it was also comedic. He could not believe that it would ever happen, saying that it was too far off and that it was so unlikely. The Health Department did assure everyone involved in the incident that the tainted spinach bin would unlikely cause in health issues.
