The theory behind the popular television series "American Horror Story" was recently revealed. It all started when creator Ryan Murphy admitted that each season was connected.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly a few years ago, the "Glee" co-creator explained why all the seasons are related in some way.

"They're all connected, Murphy said. "We're just beginning to tell you how they're connected. They're all very separate but there's clues every season that we're now telling you how the different worlds are intertwined."

"Part of the fun of the show is the Rubik's cube design of it, but, yes, there are purposeful connections, character connections, and similarities and things that connect that we'll continue to connect moving forward."

Out of all the hypotheses that came out, the "American Horror Story" theory about the show being a modern take on "Dante's Inferno" stood out.

According to TV Guide, each season represents one of the circles of Hell depicted in the 14th century literature and there are nine of them - Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud and Treachery.

Red Herry was the first one to share the "American Horror Story" theory and he noticed that each installment has a distinct theme that is related to "Dante's Inferno" despite the numerous sins that emerged in each season.

The first season entitled "Murder House" could indicate to "Lust" because the story featured different affairs. Ben cheated on Vivien with Hayden, Patrick cheated on Chad, Tate raped Vivien, and Larry had a relationship with a married Constance.

The second season called "Asylum" could be related to "Fraud" because it focused on corruption, seducers, manipulation, and hypocrisy.

The third season, "Coven," is all about "Treachery" where all forms of betrayal surfaced - from Hank turning his back on his wife Cordelia who also betrayed her own mother to Delphine betraying her own daughters.

The fourth season entitled "Freak Show" represents "Greed" and this quality can be seen on Elsa Mars who is willing to do everything to be rich and famous. In the fifth season called "Hotel," the sin of "Gluttony" can be best defined by the residents who gave in to their vices which include sex, drugs, and violence.

Ryan Murphy hasn't confirmed yet about the "American Horror Story" theory. But if that is really a modern take of the Italian literature, the season 6 could either be anger, heresy, limbo, or violence.
