The sequel to Double Fine's first-ever game is officially happening! As the studio recently reached its $3.3 million crowdfunding goal campaign from game investors and fans. Thus, the video game developers will surely be diving into the development of "Psychonauts 2."

Double Fine Productions reportedly opted to crowdfund using a new service called Fig that was launched by former Double Fine COO Justin Bailey.

"I've been wanting to make this game for 10 years, but it wasn't possible before crowdfunding, specifically the kind of crowdfunding that let us share our profits with the backers," said Double Fine boss Tim Schafer, Engadget reported.

The crowdfunding platform, Fig, apparently lets supporters to also serve as investors and at the same time, to procure a share of whatever profits the game may make. However, the catch is that Fig would only allow non-accredited people to invest in its games alongside SEC-accredited investors.

"Now that we have investors, we're going to be transparent about talking about our business plan, too," said Double Fine boss Tim Schafer, in an interview with The Verge.

"I think people are going to want to know how we plan to make money from this game. Before they weren't interested in that; they wanted the game to be successful, but they weren't asking questions about profitability, and now they will be," he clarified.

That said, fans shouldn't get their excitement high as Double Fine studio is reportedly planning to release "Psychonauts 2" in 2018. It seems that game players still need to wait a bit longer for the said sequel game.

Meanwhile, to tease numerous game players about what's in store in the upcoming "Psychonauts 2," Tim Schafer further discussed the story of the sequel game, revealing key details about the game's plot.

As revealed by the computer game designer, the sequel "Psychonauts 2" game will get after the conclusion of "Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin," with Raz having helped by Sasha Nein and Milla Vodello in rescuing the head Pscyhonaut named Truman Zanotto - a mission begun at the end of "Pscyhonauts."

Taking after Zanotto's salvage, the group reportedly comes back to "Psychonauts' central command, where Raz finds out that the organization is not all that it seemed, and that in Zanotto's absence, the "Psychonauts" organization had changed by its second-in-command, and psychic research was directed away from peacekeeping efforts towards more unconvential studies including nercromancy.

"Raz soon uncovers sinister things at work in the shadows of Psychonauts headquarters, including double agents and evils of the past," Tim Schafer revealed, as noted by Game Spot.

He continued: "Raz's own family history plays a pivotal part in the story, and Raz must confront the roots of the curse placed on his family once and for all. And also deal with this whole "girlfriend" term and what it really means. "
