The Phoenix Suns are a team in turmoil and has already fired assistant coaches. It was only a matter of time until the head coach gets the boot.

Now, according to SB Nation, there are rumblings that 2-time MVP and Phoenix Suns icon Steve Nash will take over the reins.

However, Nash has commitments to the Canadian National team (as a manager) and also consultant to the Golden State Warriors. Still, a head coaching job is hard to pass up.

"If Nash is indeed interested in becoming a head coach, it's hard to imagine him getting a much better opportunity," SB Nation wrote.

While there are still pending updates on Nash's position, a post-mortem for Jeff Hornacek seems in order.

Jeff Hornacek was not a bad coach, as he actually defied expectations when he came on board. He finished second in NBA Coach of the Year voting in his first season in 2013-14 (Spurs' Popovich was the winner)-that was when the Suns finished with a 48-34 record when they pre-season projections had them winning 25 games or less.

Ironically, there were some quarters who claimed that the Suns should have just tanked that season to get one of the top rookie prizes in the 2014 NBA Draft. Still, Hornacek continued to do what he thought he should: try to win games.

The task got more difficult and this year, with his best player out for the season and the roster not a good fit, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported that Hornacek was fired.

"The Phoenix Suns fired coach Jeff Hornacek on Sunday night," Wojnarowski reported. "General manager Ryan McDonough informed Hornacek of the decision upon the Suns' return to Phoenix after a 91-78 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night. The loss was the franchise's 14th straight on the road with a roster decimated with injuries. The Suns have lost 19 of 21."

Many would argue that it was not Hornacek's fault and that anyone in his position considering the roster turmoil and injuries would not perform so well. This is our chance to find out.
