Samsung has finally announced a release date for its next flagship smartphone dubbed the Galaxy S7.
Samsung has reportedly sent out invites for the company's annual "Unpacked" event scheduled for Feb. 21, 2016. The event will take place just a day before the world's biggest mobile event, Mobile World Congress, begins in Barcelona, Spain, reported Android Authority.
Alongside the invite, the smartphone giant has also released a short video showing a person putting on their newly-released Gear VR headset and reaching out towards a slightly open box.
"Get ready to rethink what a phone can do," Samsung said in the text accompanying the teaser video, reported Gotta Be Mobile. "#TheNextGalaxy will be revealed at Unpacked on Feb. 21."
It is expected that Samsung will not only unveil the Galaxy S7 but will also give some insight into new partnerships around the Gear VR.
Along with its release date news, the teaser video adds to the rumors that the Galaxy S7 might feature a depth-sensing camera, which could be used to provide a form of positional tracking for the Gear VR headset.
Last week, alleged pictures of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets leaked online by prolific leaker Evan Blass aka @evleaks.
Although Samsung hasn't revealed any specification or pricing details about its upcoming devices, it is rumored that the Galaxy S7 will sport a 5.1-inch QHD display with 2,560x1,440 pixels and the Galaxy S7 edge will feature a 5.5-inch screen.
However, the devices are expected to share the same specifications. Both the handsets are expected to have features including an Exynos 8890 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, a 64GB inbuilt memory, a 4GB RAM, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, a 12MP main camera and a 5MP secondary camera. Rumor has it that the microSD slot will return on the handsets.
In terms of design, the Galaxy S7 is expected to have the same looks as its predecessor the Galaxy S6.
