Following the time when 'Dexter' aired its series finale in 2013, most majority of the fans then strongly believed that the critically acclaimed TV series would return sooner or later.
And now that three years have passed, does Showtime grant fans desire and finally give the crime drama mystery series another round to go back airing in television screen?
Showtime's executive, Gary Levine, previously expressed that "it isn't a question of if "Dexter" will return, but it's actually a question of when is the right time to bring the series back to television," as noted by Inquisitr.
With that being said, if rumors and reports are to be believed, it seems to be so as Showtime's "Dexter" would, at long last, return airing. However, it won't apparently return as a spin-off but a reboot instead.
"The show is ideal for a reboot, particularly because it is in need of redemption," Inquisitr reported, recalling the trail of bodies left by Hall as the title character.
What's more, the storyline of "Dexter" reboot would apparently rewind to season 4, where everyone of the character that died in season 5 through season 8 will be alive again.
"They would backtrack and correct many of the wrongs, including Rita's [Julie Benz] murder," according to Celeb Dirty Laundry.
Subsequently, it is now strongly speculated that the rumoured reboot would showcase Dexter Morgan, who apparently won't get a happily ever after.
Not to mention that "Dexter" writer named Jeff Lindsay's idea for a reboot was that the fundamental character in the series was apparently "dreaming in the last scene of the finale, couldn't escape and was unfortunately caught."
For those who are unfamiliar, the series concentrates on the mysterious life of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), as a vigilante serial killer, chasing down killers who have escaped through the cracks of the justice system.
As of press time, several rumors were claiming that the rumored "Dexter" reboot is currently in the works with a rumored release date slated to hit the TV screen in early 2017.
