Bad news welcomed U.S. & U.K. fans of "Doctor Who" at the start of February, due to news circulating that the show will no longer be available through Netflix.
It appears that Netflix has discontinued its American streaming of "Doctor Who" this February while its British streaming is still ongoing.
According to Radio Times, Netflix has indeed verified this news via Twitter after fans have posted inquiries pertaining to the expiration of "Doctor Who" episodes on their account. The upcoming Season 10 apparently will no longer be available on Netflix as well, when it debuts.
For U.K. Netflix subscribers, the streaming still continues, but will reportedly end in three months, as the current licensing deal of "Doctor Who" will reportedly expire on May 1, reported RT.
Through Netflix, "Doctor Who" has been introduced to many viewers. It has been an institution on British TV, but it was only recently that fans from the U.S. and other countries are treated to the time travel show, thanks to Netflix.
The reason for the cancelation of streaming is purportedly due to some licensing issues between BBC and Netflix. However, a report by Crave Online said that BBC may put Doctor Who in BBC's new streaming service to attract fans to try their app.
Meanwhile, there were also some speculations that "Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat will no longer work for the show. This is reportedly true, however, Moffat will still be working on the entire Season 10 before being replaced by regular "Doctor Who" scribe and Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, according to Den of Geek.
Moffat's final series will be that of the entire Season 10, which will purportedly air in the spring of 2017.
"It took a lot of gin and tonic to talk him into this," Moffat said about his successor Chibnall, according to Den of Geek.
"But I am beyond delighted that one of the true stars of British Television drama will be taking the Time Lord even further into the future. At the start of season 11, Chris Chibnall will become the new showrunner of Doctor Who. And I will be thrown in a skip."
