"Pokemon GO" is highly anticipated and rumors have sparked that the augmented-reality game will have a release date slated this February.

Neurogadget reported that Feb. 27 might be the final release date for "Pokemon GO" because it is also the 20th anniversary of the first original "Pokemon" games. They were launched in Japan on Feb. 27, 1996.

"'Pokemon GO' is similar to the previous Pokemon games in terms of game play, but the major difference is that the game will be available to download on iPhones and Android devices," John Hanke of Niantic said.

Reportedly, several reports have referenced Pokemon's 20th anniversary when talking about "Pokemon GO." In line with this, the next "Ingress Anomaly" is also set for Feb. 27.

Apparently, Niantic which is a co-developer for "Pokemon GO" has created an augmented reality game called "Ingress." Regularly, "Ingress Anomalies" are held and players can participate in events at certain cities to earn points for the game's competing factions.

The Ingress Anomaly coincides with Pokemon's 20th anniversary and its initial site is in Rio de Janeiro. It was also previously reported that the "Pokemon Z" release was hinted at the Superbowl advertisement. The said ad was also filmed in Rio de Janeiro.

According to Inquistr, "Pokemon GO" was set to be released in the US on Nov. 20 last year. It didn't happen and the release date for "Pokemon GO" was moved to December, but again it was not released.

Meanwhile, Pokejungle.net shared that "GO" in "Pokemon GO" might mean "Generation One."

"It almost makes sense, we've really only seen Pokemon in the upcoming app's media from the original Red and Blue versions," Paul from Pokejungle explained.

"It looked like it was just marketing aimed at our nostalgia, but could there have been a secret meaning hidden in the game's title all along?"

Aside from hunches on the meaning of the title, will "Pokemon Go" have a Feb. 27 release date? Fans might need to keep waiting for an official announcement.
