In the latest trade rumors buzz, Rudy Gay has become a big name on the block.
According to ESPN's Chris Broussard in a video clip, Rudy Gay is one of the relatively big names that is on the trading block. He comments that there are no superstars that are actually being shopped. The Atlanta Hawks Al Horford and Jeff Teague were the other notable mentions.
Broussard also stated that Gay is being coveted by the LA Clippers as he could help out in the offense especially to their bench.
This is not a new concept. The idea of the Clippers being interested in Gay has been explored by Clipperholics a few weeks ago. They also think that Gay would be ideal for the team.
"In theory, Gay is the wing the Clippers need to bunch themselves into the same category - or close - as the Thunder, Spurs, Cavaliers, and Warriors," Clipperholics stated. "Rudy's presence allows the burden of carrying the offense to drop completely off the shoulders of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and J.J. Redick, and would be an immediate improvement from whichever body Doc Rivers is employing at small forward on a game-by-game basis, from Luc Mbah a Moute to Wesley Johnson to the banished Lance Stephenson, etc."
The Clippers are woefully deficient at the small forward position and if they have championship aspirations, they would have to face big names like Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard, even LeBron James if you look that far. Rudy Gay is not on their level but he would at least make the opposing threes work on defense.
However, Broussard mentioned that the Clippers do not have the assets to acquire Gay at this point. The Kings are not looking for a salary dump, they really want some talent to make up for giving up Gay. It's unlikely the Clippers would actually trade Blake Griffin for him (even if the Kings would add other assets). Let's see what Doc could cook up.
