The NBA trade rumors continue to escalate as we near the trade deadline but the blockbuster may happen this summer.
That is, if recent reports from Yahoo Sports would be believed. One of basketball's most respected scribes, Adrian Wojnarowski had the speculative prediction.
"Outside of those well-known suitors - Washington, Houston and Miami - there's another California team determined to make a bid for Durant, league sources tell The Vertical: The Los Angeles Clippers," Wojnarowski declared. "If the opportunity comes to move Blake Griffin and replace him with Durant, the Clippers won't hesitate, sources said."
The Clippers position on Griffin, who was the face of the franchise and their main media star both on and off the court has drastically changed and teams around the NBA are aware of this.
"Teams are calling on Griffin trades now, but Clippers president and coach Doc Rivers seems determined to play the year out with Griffin and see how far the team advances in the playoffs," Wojnarowski wrote, dispelling a trade deadline blockbuster. "Eventually, the Clippers will determine how intrigued Durant might be in becoming a Big Three with Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan."
Losing Griffin won't be easy for the fan base of the Clippers as he was the main reason why the team became relevant again, but NBC believes everything will be acceptable for Durant.
"Although for Kevin Durant, Clippers fans would get over it," NBC's Kurt Helin said, referring to the possible backlash the team would get if they traded Griffin.
Helin added: "Doc Rivers has admitted that he has wondered if this Clipper core can climb the mountain, especially when the Warriors have turned that mountain into Everest. He knows might have to rethink the big picture."
Would the OKC Thunder accept Blake Griffin as a consolation prize if the Durant really wanted to leave?
