New reports suggest that American heavy metal band Slipknot is ready to record their new album, which is expected to get released sometime in 2017.

Slipknot's last studio album, ".5: The Gray Chapter," was released in October 2014.

Frontman Corey Taylor explained, in an interview with The Irish Times, that he didn't want the group to stay idle in between releases.

"It was the musical equivalent of letting go of that long-held breath," Taylor said referring to the six-year long gap between the band's 2008 album "All Hope Is Gone" and 2014 album ".5: The Gray Chapter," reported Korea Portal.

"Six years, you might as well retire at that point," he added. "It is just not that kind of world we live in anymore."

The Slipknot frontman also mentioned that the band is already talking about a new album.

"We're talking about it," the singer said about releasing a new album record. "We don't want to rush right in and do anything. Now that we have told this story that we wanted to tell, we're definitely thinking about it. Time will tell."

In another interview reported by Metal Injection, Shawn "Clown" Crahan revealed that they has begun writing new songs for the new Slipknot album.

"But we're writing now," Crahan said of the new Slipknot album, reported Kpopstarz. "We're in the rhythm of writing all the time, which is a very helpful tool because we love doing that. So it's not a waste of time. It's not anything that won't get used. Usually, if we're writing, it's passion."

The percussionist also revealed that the album is likely to get released by 2017, as the band plans to go back in the studio in 2016.

"I'm not sure, 'cause we're slated to tour the rest of this year and some of next year," he said. "So... I mean, it takes six months to make a record... [And then] marketing and preparation... So, you know, if we're touring the rest of this year and some of next year, it could be as early as the first quarter of 2017. I mean, I'm just giving you actual facts."
