Rumors about "Person of Interest" Season 5 being the show's last continue to circulate around online and the upcoming season has yet to get a launch date.
In an interview with Cinema Blend, multi-awarded director J.J. Abrams expressed his disappointment about the possibility that "Person of Interest" will not be renewed after Season 5.
"My guess is it is the final season," J.J. Abrams told Cinema Blend. "The only heartbreak there is how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued. Jonah [Nolan] and Greg Plageman have done such an amazing job on that show. I know what these episodes are, that they're done wrapping [the story] up."
According to Cinema Blend, the move was done by CBS when it ordered only 13 episodes of "Person of Interest" rather than the full 22 episodes is already an indication that the sci-fi drama TV series is likely to be canceled. This already happened in the past with CBS when "The Mentalist" was ordered for its final run.
J.J. Abrams further assured the fans that "Person of Interest" Season 5 will definitely "see the light of day," although the director could not confirm yet when.
"It's a miracle to get a show on the air and to have it last that long is something that we should just be grateful for. But I do love that show and I would've loved to see that continue," Abrams added.
Meanwhile, the cast and crew of "Person of Interest" recently teased fans that Season 5 will have an exciting storyline with fewer filler episodes.
"We have a lot of story we want to tell," executive producer Greg Plageman said (via Parent Herald). "There's not going to be a lot of filler this year! It's pretty much going to be a straight shot through."
Plageman added that fans should look forward to a "really heightened, exciting narrative" for Season 5, especially with Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), Root (Amy Acker) and the Machine.
