The Apple Pay and Samsung Pay competition heats up as Square's NFC Reader is now available.
The NFC reader necessary to make transactions via iPhone is now available for purchase at any Apple Store. Those who are iPhone and Apple Pay users will no longer have to worry about the limitations of their mobile payment system.
According to Engadget, Square revealed an NFC-friendly reader that is compatible with a number of payment options. The useful device was first sold on Square's official website but is now available in Apple retail stores as well. This means that merchants that want to get the wireless reader won't have to order online and wait for it to arrive.
Samsung Pay has been advertising the benefits of their mobile payments and even pointed out that Apple Pay is not just an inconvenience to the business owners but to the consumers as well. Samsung Pay works everywhere and it's rival requires a specific NFC reader in order for it to work.
There was even an advertisement by Samsung that had the comedian Hannibal Buress buy food at a restaurant. This particular ad burned Apple badly when it showed how limited Apple Pay's retail reach was as compared to Samsung's.
Square's wireless reader will be able to give Apple users more options but the device also supports Europay, MasterCard, Visa credit cards, Android Pay and other NFC payment providers, as reported by Venture Beat.
The device will reportedly be available at businesses in North America such as Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Miami, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Seattle, St. Louis Tampa and Washington, D.C.
The new reader costs $49 and it pairs with a countertop system or Square's free mobile application. Now, Samsung Pay isn't the only mobile payment that works everywhere, Apple Pay will soon catch up.
