The One Direction split was reportedly already planned from the beginning.
A video starring the boys called "History" reportedly had clues that the British pop boy band was planning to break up months ago.
In an interview with MTV, the three directors who worked on the video revealed the truth behind it. Ben Winston, Calvin Aurand and Gabe Turner have all worked with 1D before and were the brains behind "History." Winston and Turner have directed and produced a number of music videos and Aurand, on the other hand, has been the band's official photographer for four years.
"The boys in the last five years have had the most unbelievable time and run," said Winston hinting the One Direction split. "There are so many memories and the three of us have been involved in so many of those memories."
"So rather than trying to create anything too new, we got the boys just singing the track down the lens, but then we went through all the old footage that we had from the original documentary that we made for cable television when they had just come off ‘The X Factor,’ to their first time on the road in America, to filming their movie, to all of the different things that they’ve done."
While the video was touching and appreciated by many of the fans, the ending scene sparked disbandment rumors. On Australia News Network, Winston explained the director's cut version.
"Originally they ran in separate directions then ran back together and that's how it was planned," he said.
However, they decided to cut the scene because it didn't look great aesthetically and they said it shouldn't have any significance or relation to the hiatus the boys announced in March 2016.
The reality of the hiatus has already hit fans when Harry Styles announced that he had split from his previous management, as reported by Billboard, and signed up with the CAA's Jeffrey Azoff for his solo career.
However, Styles isn't the only active One Direction member to take the plunge, Liam Payne is also busy creating music and even uploaded a sample of his work on his Instagram.
In other news, former bandmate Zayn Malik has just released his newest single titled "Pillowtalk."
