The Red Hot Chili Peppers have almost finished working on their new studio album, according to frontman Anthony Kiedis.

During a recent interview on a radio show called Jonesy's Jukebox, Kiedis offered an update on how the album recording is going.

"We had written two dozen songs before we got with him," the 54-year-old singer said, according to Music Times"[Danger Mouse] is like, 'Let's keep a few of those, but let's go write all new songs in the studio.' We're looking at each other like, 'Dude, we kind of already wrote the songs, bro.' He's like, 'No, I like to write new ones in the studio.'"

"So, in honor of accommodating this new process, we wrote all new songs, and it's a good thing we did."

He also claimed that the band has almost finished working on their new album.

"We're in the home stretch," the Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman said, reported NME. "I sang yesterday, I get a week off, I go back to finish."

Kiedis said the band plans to go back to the studio in February to assess the newly written songs and decide on which tracks to include in the Red Hot Chili Peppers new album.

"We're going to back and listen to the songs, and see if we can beat them," he explained.

The rock band recently announced that they are going to perform in Los Angeles on Feb. 5 to benefit Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

"So excited to be playing this concert for Bernie Sanders next week," Flea wrote on social media, according to MLive.

"Feels great to support someone I believe in. The RHCP offered to give him the money to pay for the theater that night but he wouldn't accept, he only accepts small donations from individuals. Every other politician greedily grabs every cent they can get from any scumbag lobbyist."

The new Red Hot Chili Peppers album is expected to get released sometime in 2016.
