BMX star and ex-host of MTV's "The Challenge" was found dead of, what appeared to be, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The 41-year old BMX star was reportedly seen by the North Carolina Police Department sitting in a truck, when they found him dead and with a gunshot wound, according to ET Online.
Before he was found dead, fans have noticed signs on his Instagram that Dave Mirra was going through some tough times.
Mirra posted a boxing photo with the caption, "Fight to win! We all have battles to fight. Never back down. Love you all. #diewithyourbootson."
It sparked the curiosity of many that the intention of committing suicide might possibly be true.
He also posted a photo of him and his wife, Lauren, with a caption saying, "My rock! Thank god."
The mayor of Greenville talked of Dave Mirra's amazing contribution to Greenville.
"We mourn the loss today of a great friend and wonderful human being who touched the lives of so many around the world with his gift," said Greenville mayor Allen Thomas in a statement, according to USA Today.
"He called Greenville, North Carolina home and was as humble a guy talking with kids on a street corner about bikes as he was in his element on the world stage. A young life with so much to offer was taken too soon."
Lately, Dave Mirra was into triathlon and Ironman competitions.
"Ironman competitions are an entirely different ballgame. The level of competition is much higher, and there are way more athletes," Mirra told Sports Illustrated, according to LA Times. "It was extremely satisfying to look around and see what I consider the best athletes in the world as my competition."
It was indeed a shock to friends and fans alike, who knew of the star's passion and humility. When the news that Dave Mirra was discovered dead and that it is being considered a suicide, mixed reactions can be read on his Instagram account.
Meanwhile, the police department said in a statement that Mirra's family requests that they be given the privacy during this hard times, reported ET Online.
