NBA trade rumors are all around and they range from pure speculation to actual confirmed negotiations.
This case involves the Boston Celtics and their recently reported pursuit of Dwight Howard and Danilo Gallinari where Chris Mannix, formerly of SI.com and now with Yahoo Sports shared the information that he acquired. In a phone interview with CSN New England (where he is also a courtside reporter), he talked about the Boston Celtics and Danilo Gallinari.
Mannix statements were chronicled by Mass Live and clarifies the perception that the Celtics are going after every big name they could find.
"But everything I've been told from high-placed people out there," Mannix said, "Denver wants to build around Danilo Gallinari."
Mannix used the term "open for business" to describe the Nuggets with most of their roster, but mentioned Gallinari and Emmanuel Mudiay as two guys the front office wants to build around.
"From what I understand, everything that Boston's been offering Denver, they just have not been interested," Mannix said. "I've been told that as aggressive as Boston's been, it's never really gotten past the conversational phase with Nuggets officials. Look, Danny's not going to go to Denver and say, 'Hey, here's the Brooklyn pick. Here's whatever,' for Gallinari. He's going to try to win the fight. He's going to try to win that type of trade. And right now those conversations with Denver, they've gone nowhere."
For Dwight Howard, Mannix mentioned that Houston's price was way too high for Boston to consider. While it was a topic of conversation, the Celtics never even blinked.
These clarifications mean that the Celtics are not just blindly chasing big names, but they also consider team fit and the price they need to give up.
