After creating waves in the rumor mill over the past year, news of having a "Beetlejuice 2" movie seem to dwindle.
Independent has previously reported that Winona Ryder released a pseudo-confirmation that she, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton will be doing the 1988 classic again.
There's been talk about a "Beetlejuice" sequel, can you confirm or deny this?" Seth Meyers asked Winona Ryder on his show "Late Night with Seth Meyer."
"Um, I think I can confirm it, because Tim Burton... like. It was very hush hush, top secret and then he was doing some press for 'Big Eyes' and he did an on-camera interview and he said 'Oh yeah we're doing it and Winona's going to be in it' and I was like," Winona Ryder enthused.
Lead actor Michael Keaton was also reported to release news of his return to a prospective "Beetlejuice 2."
"I've emailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff," Keaton said.
"I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another."
However, Movie Hole recently reported that news of having a "Beetlejuice 2" movie is "back to being a pipe dream."
Apparently, even though the prospective movie has been in the works for several years now, Michael Keaton has "no idea" if it will push through.
"Well the answer is, I have no idea," Michael Keaton crisply said. "That's the only film I ever mentioned, going back 15, 20 years ago, where I said, 'That one I'd like to try and do again... I really enjoyed that' and no one ever did anything about it. So I have no idea what the people are going to do -- I don't think about it much."
Seth Grahame-Smith of "Dark Shadows" and David Katzenberg of "The Hard Times of RJ Berger" have said to begin their writing duties for "Beetlejuice 2," but it seems that news of the much awaited sequel is dwindling.
Purportedly, Tim Burton was said not to commit to directing a sequel, but has expressed an interest in producing it.
