With Virtual Reality Gaming coming into the limelight, there are already considerable options that will soon offer the VR experience, especially that this will be a new tweak in the gaming scene.
But who will offer this new development? To name one, Sony has already announced the release of their PlayStation VR in response to the currently available Oculus Rift in the market.
Since availability is already not a problem, soon-to-be consumers might be wondering which of the two gives the better experience.
Gizmag revealed in their article that the PlayStation VR will trail at the end of the race but for the price. One of the many things where it comes behind the Oculus Rift is its connectivity to the PS4. In comparison to the latter, the Oculus Rift is run by a high-end PC gaming machine which significantly performs better than the PS4.
In terms of display, the Rift also offers a better option in its 1,080 by 1,200 resolution per eye compared to the 960 by 1,080 pixels per eye of the VR.
Experience-wise, the report also revealed that there was a significant performance gap between the two when they both tried the VR demo and the consumer Rift. Though the VR was not as bad as it may seem, it lacked visual clarity and definition that Rift currently has, Gizmag reported.
Another weakness is pointed out in terms of controllers. While Gizmag commended the Rift controllers for making consumers feel they really do have hands while holding them, the report described the PS Move as too big and remote-like compared to the former.
It requires users to have a deeper level of imagination for them to realize their hands are actually participating during use.
While many downsides were pointed out for the PlayStation VR, the report didn't forget to mention one of its great strengths-its significantly lower price compared to Oculus Rift. Apart from the $599+ consumers will be spending for the Rift, they will still be needing an additional $900+ to acquire a compatible PC.
In contrast, acquiring a PS VR is relatively cheap since a PS4 will only cost consumers $350 which is 60% cheaper than the PC required by the former.
Until the PlayStation VR is out by the middle of this year, reviews for both gaming headsets will still probably evolve.
