The NBA rumors continue for Kevin Durant even if he's solely focused on winning for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Or is he?
Durant has been nothing short of a hometown hero in OKC. He has shunned free agency before and signed the longest contract in the hopes that his tandem with Russell Westbrook could net them a title, which they almost nabbed when they went to the Finals in 2012.
It's 2016 and Durant has yet to return to the promised land, not even making it out of the Western Conference. Now, the two teams that won the West after them, San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors stand above them.
The Thunder recently lost to the Warriors and Royce Young of ESPN has the former MVP's comments.
"That's what we're supposed to do," Durant said of their comeback effort. "When we get down, we're supposed to tie the game up. No moral victories in here."
When asked about whether he's afraid of facing either the Spurs or Warriors in the playoffs (which seems inevitable barring a disaster), Durant was blunt.
"Man, we're not scared of neither one of those teams," Durant said, including the Spurs. "We're going to play our game. Nobody in this locker room is scared. We gotta play 'em. If we want to get to where we want to get to, we gotta play 'em. We're not ducking nobody."
However, Durant has one interesting action to take-the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" route. The Golden State Warriors are reportedly in the mix for teams vying for Durant's services and NBC teases it's unlikely he is not interested at all.
"His people - specifically agent Rich Kleiman and personal manager Charlie Bell - would be stupid not to have done some research on not only Golden State but on every other team he might consider: Houston, Miami, Washington, both teams in Los Angeles, the Knicks, and on down the line," NBC stated. "Golden State, playing with Stephen Curry, certainly would have its attractions."
No offense to Oklahoma City, but Durant has given probably more than half of his playing years to them. We can't fault KD for looking around, especially if there's no ring on his finger.
