There is a possibility that Nina Dobrev could return for "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 finale if executive producer Caroline Dries can help it.
Collider reported that the "TVD" executive producer talked about Nina Dobrev's possible return to the popular CW series. She also revealed how challenging it was to keep the former "The Vampire Diaries" star's character, Elena Gilbert, around after she left.
"It's a total challenge and it helps that she is Damon's touchstone for every decision that he makes, even when she was on the show," Dries admitted.
"It helps that that is why Damon is making the decisions that he's making. So yeah, I still think that she does stay present."
When asked whether Nina Dobrev will return in time for "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 finale, the executive producer explained what she would do.
"No. I would say that, if The CW called today and was like, 'By the way, Season 7 is the last season,' then I think we would scramble to make sure that she was in the finale," she said.
"But as of right now, we're acting like the show will go on, so no."
"TVD" actor Ian Somerhalder also shared his thoughts on the series and how many seasons it may still have. "It's something that everyone is talking about and there is a lot of speculation about it because we're so far into it," he told ET.
"I'll be honest with you, right now we're just trying to get through this one and just make this a really, really good season of television."
"We just want to get through this year and make it good and we'll see what comes about," Somerhalder added. "That's all we're trying to do, but you'll be the first to know."
It was previously reported that Nina Dobrev was said to have regretted the time that she spent in "The Vampire Diaries." Moreover, she purportedly is still upset with her ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder.
