American astronaut Scott Kelly, together with Mikhail Korniyenko, would be returning to Earth from the International Space Station in Mars. Kelly has spent a year in the station - making him the title holder for the person who has spent the most number of days in space. He has since spoken about his experience on the ISS and what he is looking forward to the most upon his return.
Recently, Kelly, while aboard the ISS, answered a couple of question from his fans on Tumblr. During the conversation he was asked to paint a picture of what a typical day in the space station looks like. He explains that he spends most of his time tackling experiments and maintaining the space station, if not exercising. According to the astronaut, he usually wakes up at the crack of dawn and turn in around 8PM.
"I wake up at about 6:45 am. I work most of the day on different experiments, maintenance and operations of the space station. I exercise, and I end my workday at about 7:30 or 8 p.m" explained Kelly.
More recently, Kelly and Kornienko were interviewed by PBS and during the endeavor Kelly spoke about what he misses most about life on earth. He explains that aside from missing his wife and children, he misses feeling the weather. According to Kelly, people take for granted being able to feel the wind or the light of the sun. In space, going out brings no change to the environment.
"What you miss is the people, and then the weather. Going outside, there's no sun on your face. ... You never feel this cool breeze. It's always exactly the same" quipped Kelly.
Scott Kelly and Mikhail Korniyenko would be heading towards earth next month. The pair is expected to land in Kazakhstan.
