After a couple of delays and game setbacks, "Star Citizen" is finally in slate for launching this 2016, Red Bull reported.
It can be recalled that the campaign for PC release started in 2012. And although few of its parts were already playable by some, the complete game itself was still in development at that time.
In an interview with BBC, Game Spot reported on Chris Roberts' (creator of "Star Citizen") elaboration on the issue of the game's delay. He explained that delays, push backs and sudden discontinuities are part of the game development business.
"Games get cancelled all the time. Games get pushed back," he said. "By the time you hear about a game, it's probably been in development for three years and already had a whole bunch of delays. There's a whole bunch of stuff that I know from when I was at EA, working with Microsoft--loads of games got cancelled, loads of games got pushed back. Things always took much longer than anyone thought. But the general public isn't aware."
He also explained that the crowdfunding scheme isn't as simple as raising money to get all that needs to be started.
"One of the oxymorons of crowdfunding is you're asking for money to make this game, but you don't know how much money you're going to get," he said. "Unless you just want to pocket the rest of the money, which isn't my thing at all; I want to make the best game possible."
In the case of "Star Citizen," an unexpected massive support was felt by fans and backers who pledged for the crowd-funding program. But Roberts noted that reaching far more than the target fund has its own pitfalls and downsides.
"Now you have a million game designers, a million armchair developers, a million CEOs [telling us what to do]," Roberts explained.
As of the moment, "Star Citizen" was divided just recently divided into two games, the game itself "Star Citizen" and "Squadron 42" which costs $45 each, PC Games N reported.
