It appears that the "Fast and Furious" series shows no signs of slowing down, as rumors are now claiming that a spin-off might already be in development. Wait, what?
As a matter of fact, the Universal studio is already chipping away at "Fast and Furious 8," which is set to make a big appearance in theaters on April 14, 2017. Such a long way to go, right? Be that as it may, it's definitely worth the wait.
With that being said, Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes) character has been tapped along the film, where according to /Film, Eva Mendes have a high chance of returning in "Fast and Furious 8," tailing her brief post-credits cameo in "Fast Five" and perhaps ahead of her own spin-off film.
Not to mention that Universal Studio might want Eva Mendes to star in her own film. In its report, We Got This Covered source claimed that actor Vin Diesel and film director, F. Gary Gray, first need to see how audiences respond to her character in the upcoming eight installments in "Fast and Furious" franchise.
From that point, both men can apparently determine whether or not her character has a potential to star in a "Fast and Furious" movie spin-off.
"We've written out story lines for various characters," said Vin Diesel, as noted by Variety. "We've been playing with it for a long time. It's a very rich property and we're committed to treating it with a lot of class."
Albeit the fact that the 48-year-old actor did not reveal which characters would get their own standalone movies, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson previously hinted that he'd like to see his character branch into autonomous mind-boggling adventures.
Needless to say, this information claiming that Eva Mendes getting her own spin-off film hasn't been confirmed by Universal Studio just yet.
To date, the focus remains on making three more "Fast and Furious" sequels, where Vin Diesel and Universal pledged that the upcoming films will have an alternate approach and tone from the adventures that preceded them.
"We have a director who is going to bring the darkness out and bring out the character," said Diesel.
