Is it time for "Castle" to take its last bow? Season 9 cancelled rumors are starting to get more intense as season 8 nears its final episode.
Latest reports revealed that ABC president Paul Lee has officially stepped down and will be replaced by his successor Channing Dungey. This new development in ABC's management could be a great factor in the show's rumored end.
"ABC recently announced that former entertainment president Paul Lee has stepped down and there's a chance that his successor Channing Dungey will not renew Castle for a ninth season," Fashion & Style reported. "According to the New York Times, Lee served as president of ABC for six years and was recently under tremendous pressure to resign. His will be Channing Dugney, who previous worked as ABC's drama chief."
"Zap2It also pointed out that the same-day ratings for 'Castle' season eight have been fairly low and both its leads are not contracted for a ninth season," the article continued. "Given the low ratings and the fact that network dramas can be expensive to produce, it is possible that Dugney will not renew the show or greenlight a spin-off series."
Speculations are heavy online that "Castle" season 9 could possibly not see the light of day. However, rumors are also circulating that execs could just go with producing a spin-off or new episodes without Nathan Fillion.
Nathan and Stana Katic's contracts are up for renewal once again, and the threat of non-renewal in season 8 is still fresh to fans. Will it happen again this time around? Lee previously spoke about the future of "Castle" at the Television Critics Association event.
"We'd love for Castle to keep going for years to come," he said as reported by TV Fanatic. "There are lots of good ideas for that. I don't want to give a glimpse to what those ideas might be, but I'm feeling optimistic that we've got some good ideas."
