"Attack on Titan" is one of the biggest animes to come out in recent years. Based on the manga series of the same name, it's a dark story that sets humanity against the so called titans who seemed to have a quench for human flesh. The anime adaption has been very popular for fans that anticipation for the second season is very high.

But those who are looking for some alternative anime with the same post-apocalyptic theme should check out "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress." The following is the plot according to Anime News Network:

"On the island country Hinomoto, humans hide themselves in fortresses called "stations" against the threat of zombie-like beings with steel hearts known as 'Kabane.' Only armored locomotives known as 'Hayajiro' go between the stations."

The reason why fans of "Attack on Titan" should check out this upcoming anime is that both TV series are made by Wit Studios. Although the post-apocalyptic world of titans was based on a manga, the upcoming TV series is an original story. According to My Anime List, the story and script was made by Okouchi Ichiro who also worked for other anime projects such as "Eureka Seven" and "Space Candy."

Part of the story of "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress" is the fact that it also involves giants just like titans. However, its main difference is on how it treats humans. While AoT eats humans, the upcoming anime also has a giant but the people bitten by the giant become a "kabane."

Trailers of the upcoming TV series are already posted on YouTube. It features stylized actions with some backstory about the importance of the train, the interaction of the characters and the steam punk setting that gives the series an eerie atmosphere as it faces the undead. "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress" is set for release in April 2016.
