The "Gravity Falls" season 2 finale just aired last week.
According to International Business Times, series creator Alex Hirsch has teased fans about the possibility of more episodes in the future. Could a "Gravity Falls" season 3 be in development?
The publication noted that Hirsch hinted on a third season for his popular Disney XD show. In an interview with TV Insider, he discussed the future of the show and whether or not a "Gravity Falls" season 3 may happen soon.
"I do love these characters and that's part of why I didn't want to continue forever. I wouldn't want to take them to a place I didn't believe in," Alex Hirsch said.
Although he did not explicitly say that a "Gravity Falls" season 3 may be released, he did tease fans that he may cook up something new in the future.
"That being said, it's not inconceivable that one day we may return to this world because they are such rich characters, and with a little bit of time away from it, it's possible there may be a special or something," he revealed.
"But I think when people watch the final episode, they will see threads in that episode that one imagines could potentially be addressed in some future form, whether it's in a comic or a special, or it's something a 100 years after I die with robots reconstructing the show and remaking it themselves."
The series creator did admit that there is a possibility for a "Gravity Falls" season 3 in the future. However, as of this moment, he is satisfied with where his show is at.
"Right now, I'm content with where it is, but I can't say what Future Alex may do. We'll just have to wait and see," he told the publication.
Meanwhile, the "Gravity Falls" season 2 finale aired last Feb. 15 and it set the record as the most-watched Disney XD episode. Variety reported that the last installment of the series garnered an average of 2.9 million viewers.
