According to recent reports, Ben had a melt down before he finally proposed to Lauren. As some sources claimed, The Bachelor broke an important rule in the reality show and this allegedly left him in pieces.

"Apparently, right before the final rose ceremony, he told both Jojo Fletcher AND Lauren Bushnell that he was in love with them, and both women were certain that they were getting engaged to the Bachelor."
