Jimmy Fallon may be reigning the late-night kingdom but Stephen Colbert was recently lauded for his improvisation skills after a recent failed segment on the "Late Show."
As reported by Esquire, it was noted that Colbert was a talk show host like no other especially when improvisation was the name of the game. He was lauded for being able to make an impressive delivery even though some elements in the segment failed.
Last week upon introducing a new segment called "Wheel of News," the 51-year-old host showed off their wheel that was installed on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater. But as it failed, he immediately turned to the prop of the wheel just to be able to present the segment with the help of crew Brendan Hurley.
"It was all supposed to be up there based on this but it was not working," he said on the video. "So, we're gonna use the model based on to do this tonight."
Stephen Colbert's "Late Show" audience appeared to have loved the segment as it became fun instead of a failure. But while Colbert was getting recognized for improvisation, Jimmy Fallon continued to be known as the number one man in late-night TV.
According to Deadline, despite Valentine's Day becoming a slow one in terms of viewership, the "Tonight Show" still was the top pick of audiences as they aired a special. In the figures released by Zap2It's TV By The Numbers, the show got a 1.4 rating from its 18-49 demographic.
As mentioned by the Los Angeles Times, Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight Show" success against other shows including Stephen Colbert's was a product of hard work and he doesn't mind the task of having to think all the time of new segments to do.
"It's good for my brain because I don't know what I would be doing if I didn't have the show," the 41-year-old explained to the source above. "I come up with thousands of ideas, and I'm like, 'That's something!'"
