Even when the upcoming "Doctor Who" season is still in its preproduction phase, there were already rumors and news about the changes that the show will go through once season 10 ends.
For starters, Steven Moffat, who's been the showrunner for the past seasons will step down and pass the position to Chris Chibnall who is the creator of BBC's award-winning TV series "Broadchurch," according to Inquisitr. "Feels odd to be talking about leaving when I'm just starting work on the scripts for season 10, but the fact is my timey-wimey is running out, Moffat said, according to Radio Times.
"While Chris is doing his last run of Broadchurch, I'll be finishing up on the best job in the universe and keeping the TARDIS warm for him. It took a lot of gin and tonic to talk him into this, but I am beyond delighted that one of the true stars of British Television drama will be taking the Time Lord even further into the future. At the start of season 11, Chris Chibnall will become the new showrunner of Doctor Who. And I will be thrown in a skip."
Meanwhile, an anonymous source from BBC purportedly said that the show's goal is to have a fresh start in season 11. "Bosses are already discussing a fresh start when Steven leaves," source said, according to Inquisitr.
"They've been happy with what Peter has brought to the role but some think it might make sense to give Chris his own choice of actor to play the Doctor. They hope he will be able to find someone who can have the same impact as Matt Smith did when Steven Moffat kicked off his run as executive producer."
Could a fresh start mean that they'd consider a female Doctor Who? On our previous report, we noted that Maisie Williams, who plays the role of Arya Stark in "Game of Thrones", and has also been a guest in previous "Doctor Who" episodes, is rumored as one of the actors considered to replace Peter Capaldi.
When asked about her opinion the young star said, "Yes it would be cool but right now I'm locked into some other things," Williams told Evening Standard. "I think a female doctor would be incredible."
