The release date of HTC Vive is still a long time from now but the pre-orders have reached the thousands already.
Once the pre-orders were available for the upcoming consumer virtual reality device, people reportedly went into a frenzy in order to be the first ones to get to order.
According to a tweet by by HTC's VR division's Shen Ye, there were 15,000 units of the device sold within the first 10 minutes. This doesn't come as a surprise as there are consumers who are more than willing to try out the latest technology especially since the HTC Vive is the only headset that allows free movement in a room, as reported by Pocket Lint.
Gizmodo reported that the devices sold pretty well considering it is a niche product that caters to a small market." There’s also the niche to consider," noted the site. "Since those initial 15,000 orders are likely to be hardcore gamers and developers, so truly widespread appeal is still to be seen."
The HTC Vive costs $799 and is more expensive than it's competitor, the Oculus, that is priced at $599 at its release date. However, being a device that allows free movement makes up for the price.
"In the Vive Consumer Edition box will be the head-mounted display itself, the two wireless controllers, a pair of Vive base stations, a Vive Link Box, and a pair of Vive ear buds," reported Verge.
"The headset tethers to a PC via a cable at the back, and offers a headphone jack that allows you to plug in either the provided buds or your own earphones. HTC says it's made a number of refinements from the Vive Pre, including an improved head-strap, more polished finish, superior ergonomics, and the addition of a built-in microphone
The HTC Vive release date is set for April 2016 but does not have an exact date announced by the company.
