Zoe Saldana is all set to play the role of Nina Simone in the upcoming American biographical film. The movie is all set to be released on Apr. 22, 2016 in the US. This movie is already laced with a lot of controversies and the critics are concerned about the future of it in the box office.
IMDb talked about the plot of this movie. The plot is based on the late jazz musician and classical pianist Nina Simone. The cast of this movie will include David Oyelowo as Clifton Henderson, Ella Thomas as Lorraine Hansberry, Mike Epps as Richard Pryor, Ella Joyce as Clifton's Mom, Marianne Muellerleile as Nurse Mary, Mary Pat Gleason as Orderly Pat, Ronald Guttman as Henri Edwards, Siena Goines as Heather, Camille Natta as Michelle Laroche and Kevin Mambo as Gilles.
The story will revolve around the protagonist Nina who will become successful and will be recognised by the world. Her relationship with her manager Clifton Henderson (played by David Oyelowo) too will be highlighted in the movie.
Hollywood reporter had talked about Saldana bagging the role of Simone way back in 2012. The rest of the cast too was revealed.
Recently there were controversies on the casting on Saldana for the role of Simone. Vox came with an exclusive interview with Victoria Massie and Candice Norwood. '' There were obvious issues about Saldana's casting and skin color when some of the first images surfaced in 2012'' clarified Victoria. ''A lot of the controversy is rooted in the fact that Saldana is a light-skinned actress of color (of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent) who is essentially donning blackface.''
The Huffington post also talked about the controversy and the fans of Simone found it a disgrace to cast Saladana in this biopic. ''Saldana could be seen wearing an Afro wig and what appears to be a prosthetic nose and skin-darkening makeup" to look more like Simone, according to ABC News. However as per the latest news on ABC, the daughter of Nina Simone has approved the choice of Saldana to play the role of her mother.
The trailer of this movie was recently released and YouTube has it uploaded. A movie which already got into so many controversies before its release might pull a lot of crowd in the cinemas. So will Saladan's husband Marco Perego be happy with the success of his wife again?
