For fans and followers of MMA, UFC 196 is an event to remember not only for the results of the matches but on the repercussions for future events. Miesha Tate is finally a champion as she defeated Holly Holm for the bantamweight belt and the night's shocker was Conor McGregor tapping out for the first time against the bloodied Nate Diaz.
McGregor's defeat opens up a lot of questions and possibilities for the fighter. Among them is the possibility of vying for the title in other divisions. With the defeat, CBS Sports speculates that McGregor's match with Dos Anjos is still confirmed although it now comes with certain restrictions, "The scheduled main event for UFC 196, which was derailed after dos Anjos suffered a foot injury, would make an interesting UFC 200 main event to say the least. The biggest question is whether White gives McGregor a title shot in the lightweight division after his showing on Saturday."
Another ideal match for McGregor is a rematch with Jose Aldo. Their first meeting only lasted 13 seconds and Aldo has been clamoring for a rematch for a very long time. Daily Mail also reported his Coach, John Kavanagh is thinking of a rematch, "Conor McGregor will take his time weighing up his next move, but if it were up to his coach, a rematch with Jose Aldo would represent the perfect platform upon which to resurrect his career."
The good thing about his defeat is that McGregor has taken the loss with stride and did not make any excuses for his loss. According to the Guardian, "He did not speak of being a lion devouring a gazelle but talked instead about accepting defeat and building himself back. He spoke of Diaz as a great fighter and acknowledged that his opponent had been smarter in his attack."
