LeBron James and Kevin Durant are the two biggest stars of the NBA prior to the 2015-2016 season.
Both their teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder, are perennial contenders. However, their chances to win the title this season are reduced because of a new juggernaut: the Stephen Curry-led Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors are rampaging all over the NBA and are now at 56-6. They are breaking records left and right and have their sights set at reaching 73 wins-the best regular season record in NBA history.
If the Warriors are to win the title again, they will most probably destroy both James' and Durant's teams in their path. The possibility looms that both former MVP's may see the Warriors as too much to face separately. If they decide to join forces, the Los Angeles Lakers are the best venue, according to Lake Show Life.
"An immeasurably long, switch heavy line up of Lebron and KD would be a nightmare for opposing teams," LSL's Eric Yee said. "Using Anthony Davis' recent contract extension as reference, with both players contracts' going to draw upwards of $25 million a season, only a few teams have the capacity of actually paying them such. However, if the prospect is available, any team would be wild not to do their best to clear the necessary cap space."
The Lakers has made their cap available for this offseason, as Basketlball Insiders noted. "The Lakers would be in position to pay Durant, and still have at least $30 million to spend."
Current NBA rumors have Durant wanting "his own team" and LeBron James not being a lock in Cleveland. If both players see the Warriors as insurmountable for both their teams, it could lead to this seemingly impossible scenario.
