The prospect that LG Electronics will launch a strategic smartphone in the first half of a month ahead of Samsung Electronics comes from the IT industry.
According to the IT industry on June 6, LG Electronics plans to launch the G6 in the global market starting in Korea next month. It is only two weeks after the first release of the G6 in Barcelona, Spain, where MWC 2017 is held on the 26th.
It is about 40 days ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S8, which is expected to be released around mid-April. Samsung Electronics has yet to formalize the launch and release schedule of the Galaxy S8, but the IT industry is seeing a strong release on March 29 and April 21.
This is the first time that LG Electronics' G series will be released before the Samsung S series.
In the meantime, the G-series has been launched late in the market where the S-series has already prevailed, but the launch of the new S-series has been postponed due to the Galaxy Note 7 discontinuance.
Samsung Electronics launched the Galaxy S3 on May 29, 2012, and LG Electronics released Optimus G, the G-series aid, on September 8 of the same year.
As Samsung Electronics became the number one smartphone in the world thanks to the Galaxy S3 sold 10 million units in just 50 days, LG Electronics advanced product development every year in order to enter the fast market but it was not enough.
The Galaxy S4, released on April 26 of that year, stood in front of the G2, which was released on August 7, 2013. The G3 was released on May 27, 2014, more than two months earlier than the previous year, but the launch of the Galaxy S5 was faster than the tempo on April 10. The G4 was released on April 29, 2015, and the Galaxy S6 was released on April 9 of that year. The G5 was released on March 31 last year and the Galaxy S7 was released on March 10 last year.
The timing of launching new products faster than competitors is an important factor in terms of device performance, price, and promotion.
Also, the Galaxy S8 was focused on getting rid of the front home button and moving the fingerprint sensor to the side of the back camera. This contrasts with the G6, which has a fingerprint sensor and a home button underneath the rear dual camera.
The price of the Galaxy S8 is about $100 more than the G6. Samsung Electronics is expected to make a strong promotion, such as a '1 + 1' event, to buy a Samsung Galaxy S8 in North America.
It was announced that Samsung Electronics was trying to launch the Gal Note 7 before the Apple iPhone 7 in order to preoccupy the market.
Therefore, it is highly likely that there is no new premium phone in the market due to LG Electronics' revenge on the G6.
An official in the IT industry said, "Galphone 7 space has accumulated the demand for premium phones in the domestic and overseas market." If the G6 evaluation is positive, it can absorb this demand ahead of the Galaxy S8. "
