Panasonic just announced the newest addition to its Toughbook line: Toughbook 31. The new laptop boasts of an 18-hour battery life and a design that could withstand a 6-foot drop. Let's take a quick look at the laptop's price, specifications and features.

Panasonic Toughbook 31 is perfect for anyone who's tired of always carrying a power cord. Its 18-hour batter life can even be extended to a whopping 27 hours if you purchased the optional second battery. It will go on sale starting at $3,699.

The Panasonic Toughbook 31 is so far the best laptop for those on the lookout for superb battery life. According to PC World, it beats both Dell XPS 13 and Lenovo ThinkPad X250 with 15-hour and 20-hour battery, respectively.

Users, however, must keep in mind that the laptop's battery life is highly dependent on the programs and applications currently running. Watching movies and playing video games would typically drain your battery faster than surfing the web or using a word processor. It also goes without saying that the brighter the screen is, the more battery one ends up using.

Panasonic's claim of 18-hours can be achieved if the device is on power-saving mode, with the wireless off and screen brightness reduced.

The Panasonic Toughbook 31 also boasts of using Intel's latest Core processor based on Broadwell microarchitecture which is said to be more power-efficient than its predecessor. Intel claims Broadwell alone can extend battery life by an hour when watching HD movies or browsing the Web.

The only downside with the Toughbook is that it might be a bit difficult to carry around, weighing 3.58 kilograms with one battery and 3.7 kilograms for two.

The Panasonic Toughbook 31 will be available in February starting at $3,699 with a 3-year limited warranty.
